First state with Delpach’s signature to lower left. This sought after caricature was published in the 1820s by François-Séraphin Delpech in Paris as Recueil de Grimaces, each of which portrayed a group of five heads have exaggerated facial expressions. Some, like the e sample of musicians shown here, are engaged in a particular activity, such as looking at art, performing music, or making a medical diagnosis. Prints from this series are in the collections of many museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Library of Congress.
Light age toning annd a few light marks, some staining to to outer margins, some edge wear. Laid down on light cream card (19th Century).
