Antoine Charles Horace Vernet alias. Carle Vernet (14 août 1758-17 novembre 1836) était un peintre français, le plus jeune enfant de Claude Joseph Vernet et le père d'Horace Vernet.

« Un cerf, buvant à une source de cristal, se vit reflété dans l'eau claire. Il admirait beaucoup la voûte gracieuse de ses bois, mais il avait très honte de ses jambes filiformes. "Comment se fait-il," soupira-t-il, "que je sois maudit avec de telles jambes, alors que j'ai une couronne si magnifique."
