Painter and lithographer of flowers and fruit, Brienne was a pupil of Gerardus van Spaendonck (q.v.) and exhibited at the Salon between 1814 and 1847 under the name Brienne.

According to Sotheby's Catalogue, Brienne produced lithographs under the supervision of the keeper of the Duchesse de Berry's collection, the Chevalier Féréol de Bonnemaison (1770 - 1827).

Piquet de Brienne lithographed an extensive series of flowers and fruit, drawn from nature, which he began in 1818. The Bibliographie de la France records lithographs of flowers (and to a lesser extent, fruit) by Brienne, some with plate numbers, printed by Engelmann, between 1818 and 1831, but there is no entry for a print with the same title as the one catalogued here. This copy identical to the copy held by the British Museum
