Hugely impressive master engraving issued in the first series of the engravings for the Galerie du Palais Royal.

Inscription content: Lettered with production detail: 'Peint par Guido Reni / Gravé par N. Maviez', title, and 'De la Galerie de S.A.S. Monseigneur le Duc d'Orléans', 'Ecole de Lombardie', 'IVe Tableau de Guido-Reni', dimensions of original painting, and seven lines of description in French. 'Gal. Palais Royal'

The woman is as likely to be Salome as Herodias. 

Unusually clean without foxing. One small clean marginal tear and paper fault backed to lower left margin of plate, both neatly backed.
