Nude male native of the Bismarck Archipelago, seated on an overgrown rock, two fellow tribesmen on the right, one with a plaited mat over his head.
The port of Carteret was on the southern tip of the island of New Ireland, named after the discoverer (1767) of the canal separating New Britannia from New Ireland.

Stone lithography was the first printmaking technology that allowed a traditional artist to work using traditional techniques, and to create prints that could rival an original painting in terms of detail, mood and color variations.
