Extremely rare Swiss pamphlet by the renowned Philhellene providing guidelines for the treatment of cholera during published during the Cholera epidemic of 1831/32.

"Extrait du Journal de Genève", that is, this is a very scarce offprint from the Bulletin de la Commission sanitaire fédérale.

The second cholera pandemic spread from Russia to the rest of Europe, claiming hundreds of thousands of lives. Largely due to Switzerland’s impressive campaign of public health warnings, it was largely able to avoid serious problems from this outbreak. The first cases noted in England occurred one month after the publication of this document.

Louis André Gosse was a Genevan physician and advocate for Greek independence from the Ottoman Empire (1791-1873). Indeed, Gosse was a well-known doctor in Geneva, with liberal beliefs and co-founder of the «Journal de Genève», which was published on January 1826, onwards. In 1827 he left for Greece in order to work for the Greek State, which had won its independence just a few years ago. When, in 1828, an Egyptian army brought plague back to Greece, Gosse took an active part in the fight against the epidemic.

This rare offprint appears to have been issued for private circulation.
