The Ornement Polychrome published by Racine showcased, through an extensive series of fine chromolithographs, the development of the decorative arts and ornamental pattern work since early times. The plates depicted decorative patterns, designs and motifs, taken from interiors, ceramics, fabrics, manuscripts, frescos, mosaics and architectural features. They covered diverse historical periods and cultures from around the world. Racinet intended his work to serve as inspiration for interior designers and decorators.
