Meinrad Imfeld (1771-1858) was secretary to the archive in Einsiedeln Abbey for 3 years, and  secretary of the administration chamber of the Kts. Waldstätten in Zug 1798. After the dissolution of the Helvetic Republic he worked as a banker in Lucerne, but had little luck. When he returned home, he was persecuted by the authorities wherever there was an opportunity, sentenced to the chain-gang and other corporal punishment and to life imprisonment. He wrote a German-Italian grammar, novellas and various polemical writings against the prevailing system in Obwalden." (HBLS IV, p. 336).
