Exceedingly rare Travel Poster mounted on card to advertise the Hotel Rotzloch on the Lake Luzern

Using early fine stone lithography in colour, the poster measures an impressive 55 x 62 cm and highlights the Baths, Hotel, Gorge and mountains (including Stanserhorn).

Owner and builder of the Hotel was the famed tourist pioneer Kaspar Blaettler, who, prior to opening the resort in 1860, had been a successful industrialist in the area, owning paper mills, construction firms as well as being active in local politics.

The poster clearly highlight’s Blaettler’s enthusiasm for the technological developments of the time, with his own steam ship (the Rotzberg) shown (which was used to carry guests to the hotel from the Alpnacher Lake), as well as the paddle steamer Vierwaldstaettersee to connect it to Luzern.

The poster was produced by A.W. Fehrenbach who produced seems to have produced much smaller hand bills and prints in the same style (some 20 years later) for the touristic destinations and industrial plants.

The poster is offered on a thick board (original). There is minor creasing to the lower left corner (which has been stabilized) and a few age spots.
