Engraved by Crispijn de Passe II from one of the classic works of the 17th century on dressage, riding, and jousting. Antoine de Pluvinel, the author of the work, was the instructor for Louis XIII of France and the prints illustrate a dialogue between master and pupil. The scene is enclosed within classical architectural borders (in woodcut) of columns supporting a frieze with raised decoration, and decorated with coats of arms.

Crispijn de Passe, also known as Crispijn de Passe the Younger or Crispijn de Passe (II), was a Dutch Golden Age engraver, draughtsman and publisher of prints. He was a member of the large printmaking Van de Passe family, son of the engraver and print publisher Crispijn van de Passe the Elder.
