1728 The Mexican Age "Siecle des Mexiquains" Aztec Calendar folio engraving

Among the topics that fascinated Europeans in the Americas were the Mesoamerican calendric systems, which received significant attention in written accounts. This engraving, often referred to as the Gemelli Careri Wheel, diagrams the Mexica (Aztec) calendar. The design was based on earlier versions by Motolinía, Diego Muñoz Camargo, and Diego de Valadés from the 1500s.
