1798 Reflections on Constitutiion of Switzerland, Helvetic Republic, pamphlet
Reflexiones super Constitutionis novae Helvetiae Articulis Religionem, item Libertatem & Aequalitatem concernentibus: seu Quid super his juxta fidei & religionis lumen sentire oporteat?
No place, 1798
8vo. pp. 32. String bound. - A few contemporary corrections in manuscript.
No example in OCLC. Of immense scarcity, this pamphlet discusses (in the first year of its inception) Peter Ochs’ initial thoughts on the constitution of the Helvetic Republic (1798-1803). The Consitution reflected a loose acceptance of French Revolutionary Liberty, although the interference with localism and traditional liberties was deeply resented. Resistance was strongest in the more traditional Catholic cantons, with armed uprisings breaking out in spring 1798 in the central part of Switzerland.
