Engraved title and 7 plates from the extremely scarce suite of engravings by Barlow published under the title:
Illustrissimo heroi Richardo Domino Maitland Caroli Comitis de Lauderdale filio natu maximo : picturæ omniumque bonarum artium cultori egregio, amplissimo suo mecænati, has avium tabulas celeberrimâ Francisci Barlow manu quam elegantissime delineatus grati animi pignus.

Last in auction: Sothebys 1969 when it attained US$ 912. *** The British Museum copy (which is the only one recorded by Wing) has only the title and 12 plates. The B.M. catalogue dates it "[London, 1685?]", Wing "[London, 1700 ?]". No copy is listed by BAR prior to this on since 1902.
The copy offered for sale in 1969 was worn and had 14 engraved plates (including title) of birds (only the last depicting three deer) by P. Tempest after Barlow and Griffier

Title: Vertical tear backed; some surface wear, minor loss to left upper margin. Trimmed to border, impeding on border in upper margin.
Hen, Cock, Hawke, Jay, Duck, Raven, Cuckoo, Hoopoe: Minor wear without loss to mounting. Small marginal repair. Small age spot.
Magpie, Sparrow, Turkey, Dove, Cock, Hen: Minor wear without loss to mounting. Vertical crease.
Gosling, Goose: Minor wear without loss to mounting. Vertical crease. Edgewear with a few minor tears.
Falcon, Heron, Monkey, Vulture, Sea Gull, Eagle: Minor wear without loss to mounting. Minor spotting.
Peacock, Crane, Toucan, Parrot, Teale Gambo Goose: Minor wear without loss to mounting. Vertical surface wear. Tear with loss to lower right margin skillfully added (old).
Bustard, Peacock, Peahen, Dove, Squirrel: Minor wear without loss to mounting. Vertical surface wear.
