1ER RAID PARIS-BORDEAUX
Pochoir coloured lithograph after Gamy
89.8 x 44.9 cm
Published by Mabileau & Cie, Paris, 1910, depicting Bielocucic in his Voisin on 3rd September 1910.
One of six coloured lithographs by Gamy published by Malibeau & Co, Paris, 1909-1911. It shows the Voisin plane piloted by Bielovucic flying over the River Seine during the Paris-Bordeaux race on 3 September 1910.
Ernest Montaut (1879-1909) and his wife, Marguerite (who Gamy is possibly a pseudonym for), were the first artists to capture the Heroic Age of aviation and motor racing. The Gamy-Montaut prints were produced by the pochoir process, in which the outlines for each image were drawn onto lithographic stones and printed. The prints were then painstakingly coloured using individual colour stencils.
Very good overall condition with good full margins. As usual due to size minor marginal edge-wear without loss neatly restored. Small corner tear.
