Third edition, although all the blocks in this edition are entirely new (Kim Brody Salazar). Siebmachers (also known as ‘Sibmachers’) first Sample Book appeared under the title 'Schön Neues Modelbuch' In 1597 and never reissued. Instead a second book was issued in 1601 "ein zweites Modelbuch zusammen, in das nichts aus seinem ersten übernommen ist, ein umfangreiches Werk mit beinahe 200 Vorlagen, ebenso sorgfältig in der Zeichnung wie in dem früheren Buch, aber reicher in der ornamentalen Gestaltung" (Lotz), with this appearing as a completely new work In 1604.

Due to the “longevity of their contents, Sibmachers books are among the earliest that seem to indicate execution of the design using more than one color or texture, a feature not common in the black-and-white printed early modelbooks” [Salazar].

A wonderful survival of one of the Landmark renaissance pattern books and although missing two plates, is remarkable complete compared to most copies held. The plates depict fine designs suited for reproduction using several techniques, including various styles of voided work on the count, lacis (darned knotted net), and buratto (darned woven mesh).  Over time these patterns went on to be executed in weaving, cross stitch, filet crochet, and knitting.

Fingering throughout. Light spotting and a few minor marks. Some edge wear with occasional backing to the tiny clean tears. Plate 13 has been added from another example and is loose. Plate 58 trimmed to plate mark and laid down. Plates 52 and 55 lacking. The beautiful frontispiece here bound in after the dedication.
